Regression Therapy — Including Past Life Regression

    Regression Therapy

Regression therapy uses hypnosis as a tool for accessing the subconscious mind where the client’s long term memory is stored. Once the long term memory is accessed, the client’s subconscious is “regressed” or moved back in time through the memories of the client’s life to uncover the root cause of any illness or dis-ease (intentionally spelled this way).

Hypnosis is a marvelous tool for regression therapy, whereby a skilled hypnotherapist can use time-tested techniques to locate the root problem(s) much more rapidly than psychotherapy alone. Once the root cause is identified, the client can learn to examine the event(s) from a higher perspective and subsequently release the emotional energies.

One of the best books on regression therapy is Answer Cancer, written by Stephen C. Parkhill in 1995. This exceptional analysis of the root causes of cancer should be on the bookshelves of every professional regression therapist, most psychiatrists and most cancer diagnosticians. It should also be extensively marked up with a yellow highlighter and with frequent notes in the margins which consistently say something like “great passage.” Steve defines the procedure for regressing cancer patients and other clients back to the root cause(s) of illness or dis-ease, including regression back into the womb and the earliest stages of conception. His techniques are marvelously simple and effective, making it easy to regress nearly every hypnosis subject back to the womb.

For me, Steve’s work lit a pathway to the Soul Side Support System and the interlife (although not discussed in Answer Cancer). After all, it requires only a simple suggestion to guide the client from the earliest stages of conception backward to the time-before-physical-life and the process of developing the client’s life plan. Frankly, I have always been surprised that more regression therapists do not take advantage of this well-lit passageway.

Another exceptional book on regression therapy is Mind Probe-Hypnosis, written by Irene Hickman. Irene was a Doctor of Osteopathy during her marvelous life from 1915-2002. She was also my good, personal friend, as well as my teacher; then again, most of her students felt that way, for she remained available throughout her life to assist her former students when called upon. She was one of the original founders of the Association for Past Life Research and Therapies (APRT), which was eventually converted to the International Association for Regression Research and Therapies (IARRT). In 1998, she founded the Hickman Healing Foundation, which she owned and managed until she passed over. (Note that her website is not being updated; it appears to be maintained in memory of an exceptional lady.)

    Past Life Regression Therapy

As you probably surmised by now, past life therapy is a form of regression therapy; this is where regression therapy transforms into a type of soul therapy. Past life regression therapy accepts that the soul of the client existed before this current physical life in spirit form and, most commonly, in a previous physical incarnation. Thus, past life regression therapy includes an examination of previous lives AND the life between lives (the interlife). All of the memories of any previous lives are also stored in the long term memory of the subconscious, thereby allowing the regression therapist to guide the client back into those past life memories and experiences. Significant emotional events of previous lives frequently manifest themselves in the present life (past life energy carryover), often leading to physical illness, emotional disorder, fears, and other forms of dis-ease.

As a simple example, assume a man drowned in a past life. In this life, the man may have a fear of water. Once the therapist uncovers the connection through past life regression therapy, the client can choose to leave the emotional energy of the drowning memory in the past and release it from the present life.

Note that this type of therapy would be equally effective even if there is no such thing as a past life or if the client does not believe in past lives. If we were to accept that the memory of the past life is simply psychodrama (e.g., some childhood memory, a movie scene, or dream seeking to be released), then the therapeutic process will still be a success by releasing the stored energy of the memory and with a high potential for returning the client to a healthier condition.

Finding a Past Life Regression Therapist

The International Association for Regression Research and Therapies (IARRT), mentioned above, maintains a professional member directory of past life therapists in 35 countries around the world. If you cannot find a therapist in the directory, you can contact one of the members of the IARRT Executive Board. IARRT also provides training courses in hypnosis and past life therapy, which are described on their website.

The best book (actually a two volume set) ever written on regression therapy, including past life therapy, was developed by many of the original members of the Association for Past Life Research and Therapies (APRT) – which was later transformed into IARRT — is entitled Regression Therapy: A Handbook For Professionals (Two Volume Set). The literary contributions by the many authors are truly remarkable.

Similarly, the International Board for Regression Therapy (IBRT) is an independent examining and certifying board for regression therapists, including past life therapists, researchers, and training programs. IBRT also maintains on their home page a directory of IBRT-certified therapists around the world.
